A Nice Frosty AC Zero

Zero day #7
I woke up early this morning from the heat of the tent but felt rested so I took my foam pad and laid in the shade of the bath house and posted some pictures. As the morning went on it got hotter and hotter and all I wanted was to be in the AC of our hotel room. I knew one of our errands of the day was our customs check in and really did not feel like paddling across the lake to get there. I even googled “what happens if you don’t check into your home country” but couldn’t find a straight answer 😆. We finally packed up around 11 and paddled to the Newport Marina to get it over with. A staff member named Patrick was super helpful and ended up giving Henry a Fox Works paddle someone had left behind! He’d been wanting one since we first saw them in an outfitter in Old Forge. He said that’s enough to make him start to believe in manifestation hehe.
Our call with customs went pretty smoothly although we did have to call the help number when filling out our information because the system wanted to know our registration number for our boat. Being a canoe, it doesn’t have one. When we asked the customs agent on the other line what we should do he laughed at us and hung up. Ok then… I figured if they don’t give a fuck, neither do I. I made up a number and submitted our forms.
A few minutes later we had our video call with them and were good to go on with our lives. A sign on the wall read that failure to do a customs check in could result in a $5,000 fine. Guess that answers that question.
We thanked Patrick for all of his help and paddled back across the lake to the grocery store. Took turns going inside and buying a quick 2 day resupply and some snacks for our zero and then started the walk to our hotel. The sun was blazing and I could feel my skin burning even though it was only a little over a mile walk. Of course it was uphill, I was dehydrated and hungry and sweat ran into my eyes.
I checked into our room and collapsed on the clean white sheets after cranking the AC as far down as it would go. Omg. Heaven.
We took a long shower, washing our hair and scrubbing off sweat, then laid in bed under cool sheets. I blogged while Henry watched TV and then he walked across the street to pick up some Chinese take out. We ate General Tso’s and crab rangoons in bed. An hour later I was hungry again so Henry walked to Cumberland Farms and bought me two slices of pizza. We ended the night by going down to the pool and hot tub. The water scalded my sunburnt skin but felt good on my sore muscles.
Back in the room we put on Lord of the Rings, drug the canoe inside so it wouldn’t get stolen (it just fit in our hotel room with 2 inches to spare) and fell asleep with the room a frosty 60 degrees.
