Slackpack Heaven

Day 5

Although we wanted badly to zero, the forecast said snow in two days so we decided to slackpack for a couple days in the nice weather before taking our zero day on the snow day. Henry and I grabbed breakfast at Mamie's before starting our day. The meals were huge and we were both only able to eat about 1/3 of them.

It was a beautifullll day sunny and bright and chilly. It was an easy trail on a gameland road all day and we had absolutely no complaints. Sawyer joined us and bounded along happily, rolling in piles of leaves and lapping at cold spring water. Back at the house I took a burning hot bath with Epsom salt to ease my aching muscles. Henry cooked me a delicious dinner of chicken, sweet potato, broccoli and corn bread. Cuddled up on the air mattress and watched some Netflix, enjoying the indoors and the space heater.

Day 6

Really wasn't sore when I got moving this morning which was surprising to me. Another day of slackpacking in the cards meant we were in the best of moods. The day started out rocky but we had done this section plenty of times before on some day/training hikes we'd done and knew that there was nothing as bad that we'd been through before. We ended up on a smooth double track through the woods and we were cruising. A nice, mossy ridge followed and then we had another 5 mile roadwalk into the town of Williamsburg. The three of us were all exhausted by the end, our feet pounding from the pavement but ZERO TOMORROW eeeeee yay!
